Referral Support Service, referral pathways and individual funding requests

Please note: From 16 November 2016, our revised policies in relation to BMI thresholds for hip and knee surgery and smoking status for referral to all surgical specialities are applied in order to maximise patient outcomes from surgery. BMI and smoking status must be taken into consideration before a referral is made and an option selected on the referral form. Please refer to individual pathways for further guidance and exclusion criteria.

If a clinician wishes to gain written or telephone advice or guidance from a surgical speciality this request should be made direct to the speciality. All referrals to RSS are assumed to be a referral for an onward booking to a secondary care provider and therefore will be subject to the threshold policies.

Patients wishing to find out more about the CCG's Prevention and Better Health Policy which covers smoking and BMI thresholds, can find our more, here.
