Rosacea – Information for GPs

Referral criteria / commissioning position

Refer to Dermatology if:

  • diagnostic uncertainty
  • severe disease
  • not responding to primary care management

Refer to Ophthalmology if:

  • ocular symptoms not responding to primary care management
  • keratitis suspected i.e. blurred vision, eye pain or sensitivity to light via an urgent referral

Refer to Head & Neck if:

  • treatment of rhinophyma is required

Investigations prior to referral

None

Information to include in referral letter

  • Treatments already tried in primary care and response to these
  • Relevant past medical/surgical history
  • Current regular medication
  • BMI
  • Smoking status
