Free support to stop smoking is available in the Scarborough and Ryedale area through SmokefreeLife North Yorkshire, a service commissioned by North Yorkshire County Council.
SmokefreeLife North Yorkshire
We know people have busy lives. For many of SmokefreeLife’s clinics you don’t need an appointment. You can drop in and see a fully trained advisor whenever you want, at accessible and out of hours clinics within local community settings, including community centres, leisure centres and GP surgeries. A selection of clinics operate by appointment only, if that suits you better.
SmokefreeLife can give you the option of attending one-to one sessions or group sessions over four weeks, combining fitness activities and access to free Nicotine Replacement Therapy products.
Your advisor will give you information about medications on prescription to help you stop smoking and can assist you in getting a prescription.
If you have mobility problems and would prefer face-to-face support we are able to arrange home visits. Remember quitting is all about finding what works for you!
You’ll also get support via the SmokefreeLife online platform from the comfort of your home or workplace or traditional one to one sessions with an advisor.
For more information or simply an informal chat about stopping smoking, please call SmokefreeLife’s team of advisors on 0800 246 5215 or 01609 663 023 or text QUIT to 66777.

Why try a stop smoking group?
Joining a stop smoking group means you can share experiences and tips with other people who are trying to give up. Some people prefer one-to-one support where our trained advisors can give you help that is tailored to your needs. Nobody is going to give you lectures or tell you over-the-top scare stories. You’ll just get practical help from people who understand what you are going through.
The kind of support, combined with nicotine replacement therapy, can be four times more effective than willpower alone. Thousands of people are stopping smoking successfully through services where they are supported in dealing with stress, weight gain, as well as being offered nicotine replacement therapy to help manage cravings.
Health and financial benefits of stopping smoking
Smoking harms nearly every organ in the body and is the primary cause of preventable illness and premature death. Your chance of getting a serious health problem such as lung cancer or heart disease is dramatically increased if you are a smoker.
Stopping smoking will make drastic improvements to your health and lifestyle, and also protect the health of those around you such as your family and friends. You will be able to feel some of the benefits immediately, whilst others will take more of a longer term effect. Smoking is also extremely costly, and stopping would massively benefit your wealth as well as your health. On average, most people who quit save at least £150 each month.
